CONCLUSION
In conclusion, the design set forth was specifically selected to meet the needs of the proposed requirements. This was done from a learning standpoint. We could have made the design significantly less expensive. We could have even made a design that may have been real world that may have been applicable to a school’s real budget.
However, we would have not meet the RFC requirements and we would have not learned as much about the different hardware and design options available.
As a group, we decided that meeting the requirements of the RFP was more important than designing a network based on cost and the real limitations of a school. Few if any schools would consider a $50,000 switch/router for only 1700 students. That is something that would be used in business and in a situation where it could be justified.
We did attempt to keep the cost to a minimum while providing 100% of the minimum requirements to meet the stated specifications. We tried to keep the design simple so that in the future maintenance is easy.
The design is specifically laid out to be operating system independent and takes into consideration as close Plug and play as possible. We made the assumption that skilled technicians may not be on site or that they may not have access to the CUT sheet for special server configuration. All these details were considered to keep special setups to a minimum and we believe not needed at all in this design.
Great care and consideration was taken to use Standard Access lists to keep router CPU cycles to a minimum and help to keep latency to a minimum. No extended lists were required.
As team manager, I want to thank each individual for their support and the tasks completed. The project reflects a lot of effort and team work. For those that hung in and endured to the end, I thank you for your efforts. No single individual is responsible for this project and work was distributed evenly even though Wilfredo Henriquez has spent far more hours than any other team member building the web site. His work has not gone un-noticed and is really appreciated. To the last two members of the group that entered so late, Karen and Bryan, thank you for your work that was thrown at you so late and completed so well.
The members that have finished and endured to the end are:
